iCow World Soil Day Dirt Ride
Riding for Soils 2021
To celebrate World Soil Day, our CEO Su Kahumbu and friends Maseka Semo-Olesi Kithinji and Arnold Bett started what we hope will be an annual event, the iCow World Soil Day Dirt Ride. This years 2021 WSD Dirt Ride was to visit the iCow Makueni Soil advocates, their families and communities and to recognise and celebrate their great understanding of Soil Biology and contribution to Soil Health.

After 5 months of zoom classes on Regenerative Agriculture and 250km of road, riders Su, Maseka and Arnold finally met up the the Makueni Soil Advocates Sammy Mutuku, Pauline Ndambuki and Beatice Kioko
Farmers and Scientists?
The visit started with a tour of the demo farms where farmers acting as citizen scientist in search of farming models that work in the area demonstrated for comparative analysis, zai pits, tractor ripped plots with synthetic fertilizer, bowl pits, oxen ploughed plots and regenerative plots using zero tillage and bio complete compost

Makueni MCA Francis Mwania Mulwa addresses the farming community gathering and iCow soil advocates, and assures us he is ready to support all initiatives that support the communities in Makueni
Awarding the Makueni Soil Advocates
The final day of the Dirt Ride in Makueni ended with a wonderful tree planting ceremony and an award ceremony. In this picture, iCow Soil Advocate Beatrice Kioko receives her Soil Advocacy Pack. Beatrice had traveled from Booni Ward to attend this event and was hosted by +One Advocate Pauline for two days!
